6 Lost Labors

6 Lost Labors

A new work for six dancers inhabiting the six current labors of humanity: family, friends, work, war, the planet, and the self. Narrated through the bodies of A.I.M’s dancers, this highly physical dance work exemplifies the relational qualities humans have with each other as histories repeat and the pursuit of better outcomes continues. Singh's work re-adapts the 12 Labors of Hercules into the 6 Lost Labors of Humanity, asking dancers to create, through movement, the myths of today that will be studied centuries from now.

Combining the timeless writings of Octavia Butler, the forward-dreaming of the television series Lovecraft Country, the stark paintings of Kent Monkman, and the abstracted worlds of Neil Gaiman, Singh steps into a type of futurism that extends beyond the realm of logical understanding—one that is instead buried in the depth of kinesthetic feeling.
